MR was the ideal person for proper peace and reconciliation-Azath Salley

Former Colombo Deputy Mayor Azath Salley who shot to fame as a result of his arrest, today said President Mahinda Rajapaksa was the ideal person to bring about proper peace and reconciliation.

Mr. Salley told a news conference that President Rajapaksa’s own family comprised members of different religions and ethnic groups who lived peacefully.

President Rajapaksa's Uganda visit

President Mahinda Rajapaksa arrived in Uganda on Saturday to participate in the Commonwealth Local Government conference.

During the visit president Rajapaksa will hold bilateral talks with Uganda’s President Yoweri Museveni.

“He will be a key note speaker at the conference.  The next commonwealth will be hosted by Sri Lanka in two years and so he will the next chair for it.

SL President offers condolences to USA over Boston bomb attack

SL President Mahinda Rajapaksa in a message to US President Barrack Obama condemned the Boston bomb attack today and called it an act of cowardice while conveying condolences over the loss of life and injuries sustained

The  president also had said in his message that Jeyaraj Fernandopulle, a Sri Lankan minister, was also killed in a terrorist bomb attack while getting ready to start a similar marathon and therefore we in Sri Lanka very well understood the brutality and the pain of terrorism.

The president also invited the US leader and leaders of all countries to get together to eliminate this scourge of terrorism.

Rajadhani Road was declared open by MR

The ‘Rajadhani road’ connecting the North and South, was declared open by President Mahinda Rajapaksa today. The road was constructed at a cost of 7000 million rupees and this road runs to Anuadhapura from Padeniya.
