The Public Utility Commission (PUC) has submitted its recommended proposals to the CEB today granting approval to increase electricity rates with effect from April 12, sources said. According to new tariff, The electricity bill is to be increased as follows.
The United National Party (UNP) today said the revision of electricity prices was a premeditated move which was implemented following instructions by the IMF and the World Bank.
UNP MP Ravi Karunanayake who is currently in Washington said he would take it up with the relevant donor agencies.
He said this would suffocate the Sri Lankan population which was already being choked by the high cost of living.
