Israeli warplanes 'launch air strike in Syria'

Israeli warplanes have launched an air strike inside Syria from Lebanese air space, US officials have said.

Unnamed officials told media outlets the likely target was a weapons site. Some reports suggest the arms were to be sent to Lebanon's Hezbollah.

Israel 'shoots down Lebanon unmanned aircraft'

Israel says one of its fighter jets has shot down an unmanned aircraft sent from Lebanon into Israeli airspace.

 A missile brought down the drone about five miles (8km) west of the northern Israeli port of Haifa around 14:00 (11:00 GMT), officials said.

Reports suggest the drone could have been sent by Lebanese militant group Hezbollah, which fought a month-long war against Israel in 2006.

Last October also, the Israeli air force shot down an unmanned aircraft over the south of the country.

US to finalise Middle East weapons deal

The deal includes the sale of KC-135 aerial refuelling tankers, anti-air defence missiles and tilt-rotor V-22 Osprey troop transport planes to Israel as well as the sale of 25 F-16 Fighting Falcon jets to the UAE.
