Following the official welcoming ceremony, the two presidents engaged in a one-on-one conversation prior to attending bilateral talks.
The delegations of Sri Lanka and Uganda, headed by the two presidents, held bilateral talks at the State House and the discussions focused on a number of sectors on which the two countries agreed to collaborate during President Museveni's visit to Sri Lanka last November. Bulk of the talks focused on agriculture, energy and trade sectors.
President Rajapaksa is in Uganda to participate in the 2013 Commonwealth Local Government conference to be held in Kampala from May 14 -17.
As the incoming Commonwealth Chairperson-in-office, President Rajapaksa will deliver the keynote speech at the closing session of the conference on Friday, May 17.
Uganda has continually extended support to Sri Lanka in many international fora including the United Nations Human Rights Council and Commonwealth.
In addition to the ministers of education, agriculture, and energy and mineral development, a number of other senior Ugandan government ministers were present for the bilateral talks.
Sri Lankan delegation included Minister of External Affairs Prof. G.L. Peiris, Monitoring MP for the Ministry of External Affairs Sajin de Vaas Gunawardena, Secretary to the President Lalith Weeratunga, Sri Lanka's High Commissioner designated to Uganda (resident in Nairobi, Kenya) T. Raveenthiran and Sri Lanka's Honorary Consul in Uganda V. Kananathan.
